He works also as member of the Advisory Committee for Research at AlFaisal University and member of the International Advisory Committee of the center of excellence in renewable energy research at King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals..
Dr. Al-Abbadi worked as project manager for the Energy Technology Strategic Planning Project and Assistant Director of International Cooperation Directorate, KACST from Jan 2001 to Feb 2005 and Supervisor of Renewable Energy Department, ERI, KACST from Feb 1998-Dec 2000. He also worked as Coordinator of the Saudi-United State Renewable Energy Project from Aug 1998 to Dec 2000. He worked as member of Work group on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, 4th Phase of National Saudi Science and Technology Plan Sept 2003-2005.
Dr. Al-Abbadi’s areas of interest are energy conservation and auditing, renewable energy application, assessment and analysis, combustion diagnoses and modeling and pollutants modeling. He participated in a number of research project in the previously mentioned fields and has a number of publications in scientific journal and conferences.
Dr. Naif holds Ph. D. degree in Mechanical Engineering (Thermal Sciences) from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, USA 1996 and M.Sc. from University of Colorado, Boulder and University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA 1990 and 1992 respectively and B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering/Thermal Department from King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 1985. |

Eng. Ziad Jibril Sabra is the Director of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Department, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources - Jordan. He is responsible for implementing policies, strategies, plans and commercial size projects in this field for the purpose of maximizing the utilization of local energy resource in the energy mix. Eng. Sabra is a key leader in Renewable Energy field at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, where he joined the ministry in 1987 and has held various designations and responsibilities include acting as Research and Projects Engineer, Section Head of Renewable Energy Applications at the Renewable Energy Department and Section Head of Non-Conventional Power Generation Section at the Electricity Department. Presently, he is a directly involved in the implementation and follow up of several renewable energy projects, especially the 80-90 MW Wind IPP project, 50-100 MW Solar thermal power generation project in addition to other projects including waste to energy projects, as well as Energy Efficiency studies and measures. He has conducted post graduate courses and advanced training in Germany, Spain and Italy in this field and participated in several international conferences and seminars, as well as several studies, reports and publications in the field of energy, renewables in particular. He is a member of several local committees for studying and evaluation of different proposals for IPPs projects. He is a member of the Technical Working Team for privatizing the Electric Power Generation and Distribution sectors in Jordan. He is also a member of the International Steering Committee of the World Renewable Energy Congress of WREN at the UK. In addition, he is a member in the Executive Committee of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) at Cairo, and working as the Focal Point of Jordan at the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) currently hosted in Abu Dhabi, as well as the National Coordinator for the Mediterranean Solar Plan (MSP) of the Union for the Mediterranean. |

Daniel joined Masdar in January of 2009, based in Abu Dhabi, as Investment Manager responsible for Masdar’s CSP Joint Venture, Torresol. The Spanish JV has committed ~$ 1.5bn during the past year to build 3 Thermosolar-Plants in Spain. Daniel is also actively working on the origination of new Thermo-Solar, PV and Wind downstream opportunities in the US, Europe and the MENA Region.
Prior to joining Masdar, Daniel spent 10 years at General Electric in a number of Finance, M&A and Principal Investments roles in Asia, Europe, North and South America. At the end of his career with GE, Daniel was a Director of Origination for GE Energy Financial Services, covering Equity investments in Germany & Spain, where he led a number of transactions across the Solar and Wind industries, which included the GE’s investment in Fotowatio, today a leading global independent developer, owner and operator of PV plants with operations in Spain, Italy and USA. Other GE transactions included GE’s acquisitions of Heller Bank, Universal Pictures, Telemundo and PII.

- Dr. Anhar Hegazi is the Director of the Sustainable Development and Productivity Division (SDPD) in UN ESCWA. She is directing UN ESCWA activities in the areas of water, energy, enterprise development, agriculture and rural development, as well as the related climate change issues. She is also the Focal Point for coordinating UN ESCWA activities with the League of Arab states in the areas relevant to sustainable Development.
- Ms. Hegazi is a mechanical power engineer holding a PhD degree in Power Systems. She has over 37 years of experience in different Sectoral Development fields. Her expertise covers areas from R&D to field implementation with specific emphasis on energy planning, energy efficiency, renewable energy and related environmental issues.
- From 1970 to 1997 she has served with different Egyptian organizations, mainly the National Research Center and the Ministry of Electricity and Energy where her latest post was the R&D Sector Director at the New and Renewable Energy Authority - NREA of Egypt (1994-1997).. She also taught at the environmental Research Institute as well as the American University in Cairo.
- Dr. Hegazi acted as a consultant for different regional and international organization including African Development Bank, FAO, UNDP, DESA and UNEP. She published a wide spectrum of research papers, studies and consultancy reports on different energy related development issues.

Dr Nazar M. Hassan, born in 1963 in Khartoum, Sudan, has graduated from Khartoum University with a B.Sc. Honors in Mechanical Engineering in 1986. He started his career in the energy field by joining Shell Oil Company, where he held several engineering jobs in the area of operations and quality control for Shell’s different production facilities. In 1992 Nazar traveled to the United States to receive his Master of Science in the area of renewable energy technologies, and his doctorate degree in Systems Engineering (Industrial) in 2003 with a focus on Sustainable Energy Development. During that time he was also involved in research work in the area of energy systems optimization. Nazar then joined the Faculty of Engineering at Khartoum University in 2004, and was also appointed as a consultant for the Sudanese Federal Ministry of Electricity, where he was mainly assigned the task to establish an Energy Efficiency/Renewable Energy and Rural Development Program in Sudan. Dr Nazar joined UN-ESCWA in June 2006, as a senior economic officer and was in-charge of the Sustainable Energy Issues Team within the Sustainable and Productivity Division (SDPD). Dr Hassan then joined UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences for the Arab States in Cairo Egypt early 2009, where he in now the deputy director and the senior officer for sciences. Dr Hassan has a number of published papers and reports in the area of systems optimization and strategic energy management for Sustainable Development. |

UNDP has an extensive climate change mitigation project portfolio in the region, spanning energy efficiency, renewable energy, fuel-switching, waste management and forestry. Chandrasekar Govindarajalu has worked extensively on energy efficiency, renewable energy and climate change mitigation issues at the World Bank. He facilitated Global Environmental Facility (GEF) support for the Concentrated Solar Power CSP projects in Egypt and Morocco which are among the first Integrated Solar Combined Cycle (ISCC) projects in the world. He is currently leading a GW level CSP scale-up effort in the MENA region which has recently received endorsement of support from the Clean Technology Fund (CTF). Ms. Hela Cheikhrouhou is currently the Division Manager for Infrastructure Finance within the African Development Bank’s (AfDB) Private Sector Department.
Before joining the AfDB in 2007, Ms Cheikhrouhou had worked since 2003 for the World Bank essentially in its Finance, Private Sector and Infrastructure department for the Latin America and the Caribbean Region.
Prior to that, Ms Cheikhrouhou had worked for seven years in Citigroup and her last position was Vice President in charge of North Africa Market Risk Management. Ms Cheikhrouhou holds a Master of Science in Finance from HEC Montreal (Canada) and a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Finance from IHEC Carthage (Tunisia). Ms Cheikhrouhou is fluent in Arabic (mother tongue), French, English, and Spanish and has an intermediate level in Portuguese. Ms Cheikhrouhou was born in 1972 and is a Tunisian national. |

Mr Philippe Lorec is the deputy director general for energy and climate in the ministry of ecology, energy & sustainable development since 2007. He is in charge of international affairs and governmental negotiations.
Mr Philippe Lorec had been assigned by the French presidency to manage the Mediterranean Solar Plan within the new launched ‘Union for the Mediterranean’.
His previous positions were Diplomatic Adviser (2005-2006) in the cabinet of two Ministries of Industry (Mr Devedjian and Loos), adviser to the chairman of the Direction of international and economic affairs (2004-2005). Before he was program Manager to the French minister of Defense.
Mr Philippe Lorec is senior lecturer in international relations in Sorbonne and Science Po, Paris.

In charge of the technical and economical appraisal of energy project proposals submitted to the EIB, I have extensive experience in renewable energy, notably in solar (CSP as well as PV) Before joining the EIB I worked as Project Leader in Red Electrica Internacional, a consulting subsidiary of Spanish TSO, and as Radio Engineer in France Telecom Research and Development. I hold a double MSc in Electrical Engineering from the ‘Universidad Politécnica de Madrid’ and from the ‘Ecole Supérieure d’Electricité’.

Dr. Thomas Rüschen is globally responsible for Asset Finance & Leasing, a product group within Deutsche Bank’s Corporate and Investment Division. He joined Deutsche Bank in 1990 and worked in various functions within Corporate and Investment Banking in Frankfurt, London and Milan.
In this capacity he is also a member of the Global Banking Executive Committee.
In addition to his global responsibility he acts also as CEO of Deutsche Immobilien Leasing GmbH, Düsseldorf, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bank AG.
Thomas is also a member of the ESC Environmental Steering Committee of Deutsche Bank Group. Furthermore he is Member of the Group of Founders of DESERTEC Industrial Initiative.
Responsibilities he held since 1990 include the role as Senior Relationship Manager within Relationship Management/Structured Finance in London and a role within Credit Risk Management. From 1997 to 2000 he was responsible for the corporate banking business in Continental Europe outside of Germany. Prior to taking over his current function in 2003, he served as Country Manager for Deutsche Bank in Italy.

He founded the Solar Energy Department in CASA in 1975. Afterwards he joined Interatom/Siemens (Bensberg-Germany) team for the design and construction of the CRS project of the AIE (Almería). In 1982 he was appointed technical director in ASINEL for the German-Spanish GAST project (Solar Tower type with high temperature pressurized air) and AWEC-60 one (1 MW wind turbine). Then he was appointed as Director of the Renewable Energy Institute (CIEMAT / Madrid) where he promoted and coordinated R&D projects in all fields of R.E.
In 1990 he decided to switch from his technical carrier to a managerial one joining the CDTI (financing technological agency of the Spanish Ministry of Industry) as deputy director. Afterwards he was appointed general manager of the Spanish Association of new technologies (AENTEC / Madrid). In 1992 he was appointed as general director of a venture capital company for the regional development of Extremadura (Spain) showing a positive track record with 50 new companies incorporated after 15 years of activity.
In 2008 he came back to the R.E. field as General Secretary of PROTERMOSOLAR and general manager of the new R.E. Technological Center of Andalucia, CTAER.
He also teaches business administration and macroeconomics at the Politechnical University of Madrid.
He has been member in various E.U and international R&D committees as well as in more than 30 board of directors of industrial companies. |

Jochen Poremski is chemist and physicist by background. He worked 25 years in the Federal Environmental Agency, Germany, and served in different areas as Head of Division. Before focussing on Energy Efficiency he dealt with Risk Assessment and Risk Management on Chemicals and Products and on the Protection of the Marine Environment.
Here he got closely involved with the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry and also on Offshore Wind Energy. Issues of Renewable Energy and Resources and its sustainable production and use got more important in his work over the years.
During the last 5 years he was Deputy Head of Division on Energy Efficiency in the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Germany.
His main focus was on Energy Efficiency and Energy Management within legal and political activities of the European Community, the International Energy Agency and the International Standardization Organisations such as CEN and ISO.
He served many years in international organisations as chairman and Leader of Working Groups.
Since January 2010 he took the position as Team Leader in the EU Funded Regional Project MED ENEC II ‘Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies in the Construction Sector’ focussing on the cooperation with nine southern and eastern Mediterranean Countries (ENPI South).

Mr. Dana R. Younger is senior renewable energy adviser on the power & renewables team in the Infrastructure Department of the International Finance Corporation (IFC). IFC, the private sector lending arm of the World Bank Group based in Washington, D.C., committed $14.5 billion in financing for 447 projects in 103 countries during fiscal year 2009. IFC financed more than $1 billion in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects during fiscal year 2009. He has also been involved in solar energy projects for more than 25 years. He helped IFC finance a 1 MW grid-tied solar PV project in the Philippines that has been in successful operation since 2005. More recent solar projects include a solar PV manufacturing investment in China, an off-grid solar PV concession in Senegal, and a $10 million equity investment in Azure Power in India - - a grid-tied solar PV developer with 2 MW already operational in Punjab. He is also involved with other solar projects in Bulgaria, Thailand & India totaling >100 MW. Mr. Younger acts as lead business developer for large grid-tied renewable energy transactions with a special emphasis on solar PV, CSP, and wind energy as well as run-of-river hydro, geothermal, and biomass power projects. He is presently involved in mobilizing financing for two wind projects in Mexico totaling >300 MW as well as some 1,500 MW of wind projects in other developing countries as well as other renewable energy projects. He authored the lead article on “Renewable Energy Finance in Emerging Markets” in EUROMONEY’s International Power & Utilities Finance Review 2006/2007. He represented the President of the World Bank Group and IFC’s Executive Vice President on the G8 Renewable Energy Task Force (2000/2001). He is an acknowledged international expert on renewable energy who speaks frequently at international solar, wind, geothermal and renewables conferences. |

Over the past 18 years Ennis’ focus has been on technology business building, turnarounds, manufacturing, and investment structuring in the US and Arab region. He is the founder of ONEWORLD Software Solutions and led the subsequent turnaround of Estarta Solutions, which is partially owned by Microsoft and Cisco. During this period Ennis also led several private equity investment transactions from both the “sell side” and the “buy side”.
Ennis is the Executive Chairman of Millennium Energy Industries, Chairman of X3M International, and a Director of Omni Oil Technologies.

Kevin has been involved with start-ups and entrepreneurs for most of his career. After earning his MBA at Ecole National des Ponts et Chaussées, he co-founded the European Telecom and Media Investment Banking practice at Salomon Brothers, advising governments on privatisation and entrepreneurs on entering deregulated markets, and deploying emerging technologies such as wireless telephony and the internet. Later, at Nomura International, Kevin founded a technology principal investment group and invested in over 35 European and US emerging technology companies. More recently, while working on his PhD in Energy Policy at Imperial College, Kevin co-founded Hazel Capital, a clean-tech investment management company with investments in private clean tech companies. |

Samer Zureikat is leading the development of the JOAN1 project, a 100MW Solar Thermal Power Plant in Ma’an, Jordan. Samer has over 14 years of experience working in highly-regulated environments throughout the Middle East and North Africa. In 1995, he co-founded a chemical manufacturing company in his native Jordan, where he worked for 11 years. In 2006, Samer moved to Germany, where he worked as a Venture Partner with a Swiss-based Venture Capital fund focused on the European Cleantech sector. In March of 2008, he launched MENA Cleantech in order to develop renewable energy projects in the Middle East and North Africa, with a particular focus on Concentrating Solar Power. Samer earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. He speaks Arabic, English, French, and German.
